Pebbles Bam Bam Flintstones Bedrock

Flintstones Project Bedrock Starring Elizabeth Banks Headed to Fox

Fox and Elizabeth Banks are inviting America to once again meet The Flintstones in Bedrock, a new adult-animated take on the long-running Hanna-Barbera classic that mixes The Honeymooners with prehistoric living. The new show, which was first announced back in 2019, will pick up twenty years past the original series and star a 20-something Pebbles voiced by Banks and a version of Fred entering retirement.

More details were revealed about the show via Deadline, including the concept of bringing the first family of Bedrock out of their comfort zone. “With the Stone Age giving way to an enlightened new Bronze Age, the residents of Bedrock will find this evolution “harder than a swing from Bamm-Bamm’s club.”

This is Fox’s second attempt at a primetime Flintstones revival. At the height of his power at the network, Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane received a straight-to-series order for his own interpretation of the classic show, but Fox rescinded the deal after reading early scripts. When asked about the series in a Reddit AMA, Seth admitted that he had trouble formulating his version of the show. “As of now, probably not. Honestly, I couldn’t figure out a way to find enough differentiation between a modern-day Fred Flintstone and… Peter Griffin.”

Animation buffs will remember that this is not the first time that The Flintstones has stretched beyond the original primetime run in the 1960s. The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show spun off from The Flinstones on the CBS Saturday Morning lineup in the early 70s, depicting a similarly grown-up version of the Flintstone kids (no, not The Flintstone Kids). The pair’s story would end with a string of TV movies starting with I Yabba-Dabba Do! that depicted the couple getting married and having children. It’s unclear at this time if Bedrock will contradict the previous Flintstones continuity, but there will almost assuredly be superfans at the ready to let us know as soon as the show airs in the coming years.
